Perimeter Alarm System Basics

When it comes to personal safety, you probably already know how important it is to keep your home or business secure with window or door alarms to alert you if there is an intruder attempting to enter your residence or place of business. You’re also most likely aware of motion triggered alarms that will let you know if someone has entered your home or business. But it’s an excellent idea to repel potential intrusion before intruders actually reach your doorstep, much less step inside. In other words, chase intruders away the moment they set foot on your property.

The best way to do this? Install a perimeter alarm system – an all inclusive, property wide external alert system that is triggered to warn you and discourage intruders before they enter your home or business. In other words, stop the problem before it starts.

Perimeter alarm systems sound an alarm before an intruder enters your home or business. This type of alarm system focuses on all possible points of entry into your home or business, and covers outside areas all around your property, such as driveways, walkways, or lawns. Perimeter alarms come in all forms. There are silent alarms that alert only you to the presence of a potential intruder or immediately contact local law enforcement should your property be breached. There are lighting systems that will fully illuminate your entire property; or lighting systems that are triggered to activate anywhere in which there is movement on your property. You can utilize a voice alert system in which a customized or pre-recorded message will sound, announcing the presence of an intruder on your property. Video monitoring systems can be utilized. Driveway focused perimeter alarms will let you know if a vehicle is approaching your residence or business. Other perimeter alarms will be motion activated to trigger loud sounds or send a silent alert to the property owner. Many perimeter alarms are easily concealed, as well, adding an element of surprise to your security system. Potential intruders won’t know that you know they’re coming.

But whichever type of perimeter alarm you chose, installing one means that an alert of some type will be activated before an intruder actually enters your home or business. Perimeter alarms up the odds considerably that an intruder will simply flee before even attempting to gain access to your home or business when his presence is announced by sound or light.

Perimeter alarms can be as simple as inexpensive flood light systems or as elaborate as fiber optic fences and closed circuit cameras. Most perimeter alarms are a cost effective deterrent: low in power usage and set up to protect the entire area around your home or business, these alarms offer complete coverage of your entire property and serve as an external gate keeper to prevent

would be intruders before, not after, they enter your home or work place.

Naturally, to fully protect your property you’ll also want to include on a system that protects your main points of entry – such as doors and windows; and you may also wish to place motion detection sensors in the interior of your home or business. But why not deter and likely prevent an intruder from getting that far? Installing a perimeter alarm means that your property is protected from the outside in, making safety more certain, and discouraging intruders from even coming close to your loved ones or co-workers.

About Jeremy Kushner

I grew up in a place where crime rates were high and all sorts of things were constantly going missing from the yard, the shed and sometimes even from inside our house. The funniest thing that has been stolen from me were the light bulbs from the porch! I learned the value of home security practices from an early age and I hope this blog will help others keep their valuables and feel safe at home.
